Cora Duininck and Gabrielle Farrell
Liberty women's soccer swept the ASUN Conference honors this week as Gabrielle Farrell was named the ASUN Player of the Week while Cora Duininck earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors. The awards come after Liberty clinched a spot in the ASUN Tournament, handing FGCU its first loss in conference play this season.
Duininck and the backline were exceptional against the Eagles, as they posted their seventh shutout of the season. Liberty's backline held Evdokia Popadinova, who went into the game ranked second in the ASUN with eight goals, to just one shot on goal throughout the game as FGCU was shut out for the first time during conference play this season. Duininck kept FGCU scoreless in the first half on a crucial save in front of goal as Liberty's backline has not allowed a goal in the last 765 minutes of regulation. The Lady Flames have not allowed a goal during regulation in ASUN contests this year. This is the second time Duininck has been named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week this season.
While Duininck and Liberty's backline were exceptional against FGCU, Farrell was once again clutch as she netted her 17th career game-winning goal, scoring early in the second half. Farrell's goal was the first goal FGCU had allowed in the last five games as Farrell now ranks second in the ASUN with nine goals. Farrell continues to move up Liberty's all-time charts as she now ranks third in career points (60), third in career goals (23) and fifth in career assists (14). This is the second time Farrell has been named ASUN Player of the Week this season.
The Lady Flames will close out the regular season on the road this weekend at NJIT. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
