Muamba will play in tomorrow's singles quarterfinals and doubles quarterfinals (alongside Thomas-Smith).
Liberty junior Nicaise Muamba won a pair of singles matches on day three of the ITA Atlantic Regional, Saturday, to reach the quarterfinals of the singles main draw. Additionally, Muamba and freshman Deji Thomas-Smith captured a doubles match and will play in tomorrow's doubles main draw quarterfinal round.
The five-day tournament is hosted by Virginia and being held at the Snyder Courts, Dell Courts and Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.
"Nic and Deji competed from start to finish today," stated Liberty head coach Derek Schwandt.
Muamba, the No. 1 singles seed, claimed two singles contests on Saturday to continue his run in the main draw. He downed George Washington's Ryan Navarro in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) in the round of 32, followed by a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Old Dominion's Younes Lalami in the round of 16.
Muamba, the 65th-ranked player singles player in the country, will meet Virginia's William Woodall in the quarterfinals on Sunday. The Laval, Quebec, Canada, native is 6-4 in fall singles matches.
Muamba and Thomas-Smith, the No. 14 seed in doubles, bested No. 6 seed Luca Maldoner and Tomislav Podvinski of Old Dominion 8-2 in the round of 16. The Flames duo, which is 3-0 this weekend, will square off with No. 10 seed Timo Zgraggen and Lleyton Cronje of VCU in tomorrow's quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m.
Liberty's William Barker and Goncalo Ferreira fell in the doubles round of 16 to VCU's Inigo Torre Martin and Rayane Stable by a 9-7 score. The Flames pairing finished the tournament with a 2-1 mark.
Day four of the ITA Atlantic Regional will feature the singles quarterfinals, doubles quarterfinals and doubles semifinals.
