Lady Flames Picked 2nd in ASUN Preseason Polls

Entering its second season of ASUN play, the Liberty women's basketball team has been picked to finish second in the conference by both the ASUN head coaches and media members. Additionally, the head coaches voted both redshirt junior wing Emily Lytle and junior forward Bridgette Rettstatt to the preseason all-conference team.

Liberty finished 10-6 during its inaugural ASUN season in 2018-19 and reached the title game of the ASUN Women's Basketball Championship.

FGCU, which topped the Lady Flames to win its third straight ASUN title, was a unanimous pick for first place in both the coaches and media polls, garnering all 45 possible first-place votes. FGCU seniors earned both the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year (Nasrin Ulel) and Preseason Defensive Player of the Year (Tytionia Adderly) distinctions.

Liberty edged fellow second-year ASUN member North Alabama for second place in the coaches poll by two points (65-63). The Lady Flames and Lions also finished 2-3 in the media poll, with Liberty totaling 268 points to North Alabama's 236.

Lytle was the Lady Flames' leading scorer during her first season at Liberty, averaging 12.4 ppg. The Memphis, Tenn., native was named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team at the end of a season where she tied Liberty's all-time single-season record with 64 three-pointers.

A native of Galena, Ohio, Rettstatt is coming off a breakthrough sophomore season which saw her average 11.0 ppg and a team-high 7.0 rpg. She scored in double digits during 12 of 16 ASUN contests as a sophomore, earning second team All-ASUN honors.

Liberty will tip off its 2019-20 campaign at Norfolk State on Nov. 5. Three days later (Nov. 8), the Lady Flames will host ETSU for the first of 12 home games during their 30th and final season at the Vines Center.

The Lady Flames' 16-game ASUN Conference slate tips off with road games at NJIT (Jan. 4) and FGCU (Jan. 6).

The 2020 ASUN Women's Basketball Championship will consist of quarterfinal contests on March 7, semifinal tilts on March 11 and the championship game on March 15. All tournament games will be played on the home court of the higher seed.
