Team scores fell during day two of the 2019 Marquette Intercollegiate, but the Flames were not able to keep up the pace with the rest of the field on Monday.
Liberty shaved three strokes off its team score from Sunday, carding 6-over par 294 to finish the second round with an overall 15-over par 591 (297-294) at the Erin Hills Golf Course (par 72, 7,551 yards).
However, the 12-team field played its second trip around the host site for the 117th U.S. Open in 2017 nearly three shots better per individual during the second round. Following the second round, Liberty finds itself in eighth place.
The Flames will be one of the first teams sent off the No. 10 tee (par 4, 476 yards) tomorrow morning, starting at 8:50 a.m. CST to start the final round.

• The 12-team field played the former national championship course at a 73.29 stroke average on Monday, after opening play on Sunday at a 76.34 stroke average. • All 12 teams in the tournament field finished with a lower team score on Monday as compared to their opening round on Sunday. • Five teams in the field posted a team score in red figures during the second round, led by 10-under par 278 by Purdue, who holds the clubhouse lead going into the final round. • Four strokes separate the top six teams in the field with Purdue leading the way with an overall 3-over par 579 (301-278). • UCLA is one shot back with a 4-over par 580 (292-288), followed by third-place Indiana, who is at 5-over par 581 (300-281). • Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn leads the 72-man field with a 7-under par 137 (70-67), followed directly by Georgia State's Ashton Poole, who trails by one with a 6-under par 138 (69-69).
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• Liberty's Alexandre Fuchs, who held the clubhouse lead on Sunday after a 4-under par 68 opening round, slipped to a share of sixth place on Monday. •The junior is six shots behind with an overall score of 1-under par 143 (68-75). • Connor Polender was the lone Flame to break par on Monday, carding a 1-under par 71. • Polender is playing as an individual in this event and is tied for 17th place with an overall 2-over par 146 (75-71). • Zach Barbin carded the second-best round of the day for the Flames, posting an even par 72 to enter the final round tied for 41st place with an overall 7-over par 151 (79-72).
