Flames men's tennis senior Chase Burton earned a victory on day one of the 2019 ITA Men's All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, Saturday.
Burton topped North Carolina's Ladd Harrison in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) in the first round of pre-qualifying in the morning. The victory was his 65th career triumph, most among active Liberty players. The Naples, Fla., native dropped his second match to Akram El Sallaly of Pacific in two sets (6-1, 6-4) in the afternoon.
Liberty freshman Goncalo Ferreira fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to Ohio State's Justin Boulais. Flames sophomore Josh Wilson was edged by California's Can Kaya in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5)) later in the day. Wilson's match was contested at Union 9th Grade Center in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Liberty's time at the ITA All-American Championships, featuring many of the best players in college tennis, has concluded. The Flames will be back in action next weekend (Friday-Sunday) at the Richmond Invitational.
