Saturday's Top Storylines
1. Liberty will kick off its 47th football season by making some program history. First-year Head Coach Hugh Freeze's squad will play host to an FBS Top 25 foe (No. 22/22 Syracuse) for the first time and will also be welcoming their first Power Five opponent to Williams Stadium.
2. The Flames will aim for their first-ever win over an FBS Top 25 opponent and their inaugural victory against an ACC foe. Liberty has defeated FBS opponents in each of its last two season openers (Baylor in 2017, Old Dominion in 2018).
3. Liberty's offense returns a 3,000-yard passer (Stephen Calvert), a 1,000-yard rusher (Frankie Hickson) and a 1,000-yard receiver (Antonio Gandy-Golden) from last season. Clemson is the only other FBS team which can make that claim.
4. Calvert appears on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Preseason Watch List. The fourth-year starter has completed 69-of-96 passes (71.9 percent) for 792 yards, 7 TDs and 0 interceptions during his last two season openers.
5. Biletnikoff Award Watch List member Gandy-Golden has been Calvert's most frequent target throughout his career. The senior's receiving line during the 2017 and 2018 season openers totals 19 catches for 245 yards and five TDs.
6. DEs Jessie Lemonier (10.0 sacks in 2018) and Austin Lewis (2018 FWAA Freshman All-American) will look to terrorize opposing quarterbacks for a second straight season.

A Liberty Win Would ...
• Mark the Flames' first-ever victory over an FBS Top 25 opponent.
• Give the Flames their first-ever triumph over an ACC squad.
• Represent the Flames' first-ever home win over a Power 5 foe.
• Mark the Flames' fifth consecutive home victory.
• Enable the Flames to open a third straight season with a win over an FBS opponent, following victories at Baylor (2017) and versus Old Dominion (2018).
• Extend the Flames' winning streak in home openers to seven games.
• Mark the ninth consecutive time Liberty has won when playing its season opener in Lynchburg.
