Farquhar and James Named to NABC Honors Court

Liberty's Zach Farquhar and Scottie James were named to the 2018-19 NABC Honors Court, which recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.

"This award is a symbol of what we strive for in our basketball program," head coach Ritchie McKay said. "The same passion that Zach and Scottie displayed on the court is the same work ethic they show in the classroom. This award wouldn't be possible without Kristie Beitz, Courtney Huffman and the rest of our academic staff."

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria that includes posting a 3.2 GPA or higher throughout the 2018-19 academic year. Farquhar and James are two of five players from the ASUN Conference to receive the honor this year.

As an exercise science major, Farquhar posted a 3.83 GPA this year. As one of three captains this season, Farquhar proved to be a great shooter throughout his career, shooting 60 percent during his time at Liberty.

The postseason accolades continue to come in for James as he was named the ASUN Tournament MVP and was a First Team All-ASUN selection. This is the second NABC Honor for James this year as he was a District Three Second Team honoree. In the classroom, James is a mechanical engineering major.
