Liberty women's lacrosse captains Brianna McCaffrey and Carly White were both selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division Women's Lacrosse All-State second team, as announced by the organization on Friday.
This marks the first all-state honor for both McCaffrey and White and the first time in school history that Liberty has featured a pair of midfielders on the VaSID all-state team. It is also the first time since 2016 that the Lady Flames have had two players on the listing.
McCaffrey, a senior who just finished her four-year playing career for the Lady Flames, was an ASUN All-Conference first team honoree and was also named to the ASUN Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament team. She earned four ASUN weekly honors (three defensive player of the week and one player of the week), the most of any player in the ASUN in 2019.
The Boca Raton, Fla., native finished No. 2 in the country in caused turnovers per game (3.11) for a Liberty squad which led the country in caused turnovers per contest (15.79) for a second straight year. McCaffrey earned an invitation to the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game for her efforts. The senior also contributed 35 goals, 56 caused turnovers, 51 ground balls and 51 draw controls.
She concluded her decorated career as a four-time all-conference performer and the program's all-time leader in draw controls (233), ground balls (164) and caused turnovers (147) while tying for first in goals (128).
White earned ASUN All-Conference first team accolades this spring, the first player in program history to earn first team all-conference distinction in each of her first three seasons. The junior received two ASUN Player of the Week honors and one ASUN Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
The Marietta, Ga., native finished No. 9 in the country in free-position percentage (.650) and No. 10 in ground balls per game (3.26). She led the squad in points (61) and ground balls (62) and finished tied for first in draw controls (79). White finished second on the team in assists (24), tied for second in goals (37) and third in caused turnovers (26).
Liberty won a program-record 14 games in 2019, posted a 5-1 mark in its first year in the ASUN and played in the ASUN Lacrosse Championship title game. The Lady Flames ended the year at No. 31 in the NCAA Women's Lacrosse RPI, their best ledgering at the end of the season in school history.
The Lady Flames have featured 11 all-state players in Nangle's six years as head coach.
