Liberty Athletics Claims Bill Bibb All-Sports Trophy

2018-19 ASUN Bill Bibb Trophy Award Standings

Liberty Athletics made its inaugural season in the ASUN Conference more memorable as the department was awarded the Bill Bibb Trophy at the conference's annual awards banquet this evening in Savannah, Ga.

The Bill Bibb Trophy is awarded to the ASUN Conference institution with the top overall athletics program.

This marks the 15th time Liberty Athletics has captured a conference All-Sports Award trophy in the last 22 years. Prior to leaving the Big South Conference, Liberty Athletics captured 14 Big South Sasser Cup titles during its last 21 years as a conference member.

Liberty was also presented with the ASUN Conference's Jesse Fletcher (Men's All-Sports) and Sherman Day (Women's  All-Sports) Trophies.

"We are grateful to the ASUN membership for warmly welcoming Liberty into the conference," said Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "The level of competition in the ASUN is exceptional and we are blessed that our teams and student-athletes have thrived this year."

This marks the third time in conference history a member institution has swept all three honors and the first time since FGCU did so in 2012-13.

Seven Flames teams captured ASUN titles, including men's basketball (regular season and tournament), baseball (tournament), women's tennis (regular season), men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field.

Six second-place finishes also helped solidify the Bill Bibb Trophy for Liberty. In total, the Flames totaled 313.5 out of a possible 372 points to finish ahead of FGCU and North Florida.

In the Jesse Fletcher Trophy (Men's All-Sports) race, Liberty added a spring championship title in outdoor track & field, in addition to second-place performances in men's tennis, men's golf and baseball, to secure the top spot after being tied with Lipscomb following the winter season. On the year, Liberty collected 154.5 out of a possible 180 points.

The Lady Flames overtook FGCU by a mere three percentage points to claim the Sherman Day Trophy (Women's All-Sports) after earning titles in the spring sports of outdoor track & field and women's tennis and placing second in softball. Liberty recorded 159 out of 192 possible points.

Points for the ASUN All-Sports Trophies are awarded on a descending basis in three-point increments. A minimum of 50 percent of the full ASUN membership must participate in a sport for that sport to be counted in the all-sports standings.

Championship points available based on number of teams (teams x 3 points) participating in each sport. Team sport points are awarded based on regular season finish. Individual sports (cross country, golf, track & field) points are awarded based on the ASUN Championship results. Ties split points.

All sports standings are based on percentage. Each institution's percentage is based on sport participation and performance - school points earned divided by total possible points available to that institution.
