Liberty Athletics celebrated its graduating members of the athletics department during its fifth annual Athletics Cord Ceremony, last Thursday evening.
During the event, Alan York spoke with several of the honored student-athletes, including Ashley Bongart of the Lady Flames tennis team. The senior will graduate with a digital media degree on Saturday with a specialization in performance.
During her two-year career with the Lady Flames, the native of Bradenton, Fla., posted 42 career singles victories and earned national attention when she received a No. 107 singles national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Feb. 20.
Bongart was named to the 2018 Big South First Team All-Conference singles squad, finishing her junior season with 23 wins. Last year, she was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll and the ITA Scholar-Athlete team, while she garnered ASUN Conference All-Academic Team honors as a senior.
Bongart is one of 110 graduating Liberty University student-athletes who will receive their degrees during Saturday's Commencement exercises at Williams Stadium.
Bongart was presented her cord during the special ceremony. The ceremony allowed Liberty's athletics administration to thank this year's graduates for their time and efforts at Liberty and present them with their athletics cord, which is designed to signify their time as a Liberty student-athlete.
