Liberty relief pitcher Evan Brabrand has been named to the Midseason Update for the 15th National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award. The redshirt senior is one of the 45 top relief pitchers on the list.
Brabrand enters this weekend's ASUN Conference three-game series at Jacksonville with a 2-1 record and nine saves in 15 appearances. The right-hander has posted a 0.81 ERA over 33 1/3 innings, while striking out 45 and walking seven. Currently, he leads the ASUN Conference and is among the top 15 nationally in saves.
Earlier this season, the Raleigh, N.C., native was selected to the Perfect Game/Rawlings Mid-Season All-American team. The redshirt senior was one of four relief pitchers selected to the squad.
Brabrand and the Flames, 29-11 overall and 9-3 in the ASUN, are in the midst of a nine-game round trip, their longest of the season. Liberty opens a three-game conference series at Jacksonville, Friday. First pitch at John Sessions Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
