Autumn Bishop was named ASUN Softball Player of the Week.
Official ASUN Release After a dominant week at the plate, Liberty junior infielder Autumn Bishop has been named ASUN Softball Player of the Week.
A native of Murrieta, Calif., Bishop earns her first career ASUN weekly honor. She was named Big South Player of the Week twice last year.
Liberty has now had four different players named ASUN Player of the Week this season, as Autumn Bishop joins Alexis Erich (March 4), Jaclyn Amader (April 1) and Amber Bishop (April 8). Liberty has tied a program record with four different conference player of the week honorees in the same year. Dawn Jeffs, Jessica Moore, Sarah Swor and Ashley Williams were all named Big South Player of the Week in 2007.
Last week, Bishop hit .583 (7-for-12) with one double, five RBI and five runs scored. She also posted a .667 slugging percentage and .615 on base percentage.
During Tuesday's 4-3 setback at Virginia, she batted 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Bishop then went 5-for-8 with one double, five RBI and four runs scored in a three-game sweep of Jacksonville over the weekend.
The junior went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI during the series opener, a 2-1 win over the Dolphins on Friday. She then batted 2-for-3 with one run scored and a season-high three RBI, helping Liberty run-rule Jacksonville 8-0 in five innings in game one on Saturday. Bishop finished out the series by going 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored in the series finale, which Liberty won 4-0.
Bishop leads the ASUN in on base percentage (.480) and is third in batting average (.376). Her current 13-game hitting streak is the longest by a Lady Flame so far this season.
Conference-leading Liberty (33-16, 12-3 ASUN) steps outside of ASUN play on Tuesday, hosting former Big South rival Radford (22-27, 12-9 Big South) at 6 p.m. at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
