Liberty senior Ashley Bongart has been selected as the ASUN Women's Tennis Co-Player of the Week, Wednesday.

Bongart, a senior who is in her second season with the Lady Flames, is being honored as player of the week for the first time in her Liberty career. With Bongart's recognition, the Lady Flames have now received ASUN Player of the Week honors in three of the past four weeks. Lipscomb's Vika Dzyuba also received co-player of the week accolades today from the conference office.

"Ashley's done a great job of leading us from the top this year. The energy she exudes during matches is contagious and has helped us on many occasions to rise up and get the win," said Lady Flames head coach Jeff Maren.

Bongart went a combined 3-0 in a pair of ASUN home victories, last week. In singles, she picked up victories against her counterparts from Stetson and North Florida. Bongart bested Stetson's Danel Ashirova in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6)) at No. 1 singles, providing the Lady Flames their final point in a 7-0 sweep of the Hatters, last Thursday.

Bongart also teamed up with fellow senior Anna Dollar in doubles for a 6-3 triumph over Stetson's Megan Horwitz and Alexe Viaud on court three, helping Liberty secure the doubles point. Bongart and Dollar are 10-4 at No. 3 doubles, this spring.

On Saturday against four-time defending ASUN champion North Florida, the Liberty senior defeated Rafaela Gomez in straight sets (7-6 (3), 6-3) on court one. Bongart's victory helped the Lady Flames top the Ospreys 4-3. Since moving into the No. 1 slot in the Liberty lineup, Bongart holds a 6-4 record.

With the win, Liberty moved into first place in the ASUN with a 5-1 mark and ended UNF's 10-match winning streak.

Bongart and Liberty (13-6), currently on a six-match winning streak, will play a home non-conference match against the Marshall Thundering Herd (6-13) on Thursday at 2 p.m. Thursday will be Senior Day at the Cook Tennis Center, where the program will honor its five seniors – Bongart, Rebekah Anderson, Anna Dollar, Maria Medina and Lara Soares – prior to the contest.
