First place Liberty will welcome Lipscomb to town on Saturday afternoon for an ASUN Conference match.

First serve between the Flames (8-9, 2-0 ASUN) and Bisons (6-9, 1-1 ASUN) will be at 3 p.m. at the Cook Tennis Center. Liberty is 3-0 at home in 2019, but tomorrow's match will be the Flames' first outdoor match of the season.

Liberty brings a 2-0 ASUN mark and a share of first place with Florida Gulf Coast (7-8, 2-0 ASUN) into Saturday's match. The Flames won two conference road matches last weekend, defeating Kennesaw State (5-2 on Saturday) and North Alabama (7-0 on Sunday).

The Flames were picked to finish third in the 2019 ASUN Conference Men's Tennis Coaches Poll. Lipscomb was selected to finish fifth.

The Bisons come into Saturday's contest with a 1-1 mark in the ASUN. They topped North Alabama 6-1 on the road last Saturday and lost a home match by a 5-2 score to Kennesaw State, Thursday.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Flames News and Notes

  • Liberty is 4-1 in its last five matches. Sophomore Nicaise Muamba (No. 1) and freshman Josh Wilson (No. 2) are both 4-1 in singles during that stretch. Muamba is also a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with partner Chase Burton over the last five team matches.
  • Liberty and North Florida both have featured five ASUN Player of the Week honorees, this spring. The Flames' Muamba leads all ASUN competitors with four awards (Jan. 23, Feb. 20, Feb. 27 and March 20), and Wilson has the other one for Liberty (Jan. 30).
  • Wilson and senior Eddie Gutierrez are both 2-0 in ASUN matches. Gutierrez leads all active Liberty players with 66 career singles victories, which ranks sixth most in program history.
  • The last time the Flames played a dual match at the Cook Tennis Center was on April 8, 2018, a 4-3 setback to Winthrop. Liberty most recently competed on its home outdoor courts in the fall at the Liberty University Invitational (Sept. 28-30).
  • All three of Liberty's triumphs at home this season have come indoors. Liberty topped George Washington (6-1, Feb. 15) and North Carolina A&T (7-0, Feb. 23) at Crosswhite Athletic Club. The Flames bested William & Mary 6-1, Feb. 16 at Boonsboro Country Club.
  • Liberty won its 2018 conference (Big South) home opener 4-3 against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs.
