Liberty and FGCU were predicted to finish first and second, in that order, in the preseason coaches' poll. Both teams have beaten at least one nationally-ranked team this year, and both Liberty and FGCU are ranked in the top 25 in the nation in team ERA.

FGCU Softball Complex was the site of the first five games of current Liberty head coach Dot Richardson's career with the Lady Flames, as Liberty competed in the 2014 FGCU Invitational. The stadium will also host the 2019 ASUN Softball Championship, May 8-11.

The Lady Flames trailed at Duke, 5-1, entering the seventh inning on Wednesday, before tying the game. Liberty scored five runs in the ninth inning, downing the Blue Devils, 10-6 in nine innings. It was Liberty's first extra-inning game of the season after going 3-2 in extra-inning contests in 2018.

Liberty went 1-2 in its first-ever ASUN series, March 15-16 at Kennesaw State, before winning a home series 2-1 over Lipscomb last weekend.

Liberty (1.91 ERA) entered the week ranked 16th in the nation in team ERA, and the Lady Flames have tossed 10 shutouts. Liberty has tossed two no-hitters, including a perfect game from Julia DiMartino and a four-pitcher no-hitter versus Quinnipiac. Liberty's top win so far this year came on Feb. 15, when the Lady Flames downed then No. 19 Texas A&M 4-2.

Liberty returns eight all-conference players from last year's team, led by two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year Julia DiMartino, 2019 ASUN Preseason Player of the Year Autumn Bishop and Amber Bishop. All three were named to the NFCA All-Region team each of the last two years. Autumn Bishop was named to the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List.

DiMartino, a two-time NFCA All-Region pitcher, has been named ASUN Pitcher of the Week three times. She is 10-6 with a 1.40 ERA, .189 opponents batting average and three shutouts. Freshman Braelyn Cooper has posted a 1.09 ERA in seven appearances, while Chase Cassady is 6-1 with a 1.83 ERA and 7.1 strikeouts per seven innings.

Autumn Bishop bats a team-best .393 and leads the ASUN with a .513 on base percentage. Her twin sister, Amber Bishop, hits .378 while leading the team in doubles (9), homers (6) and RBI (19). Madison Via (.329) is tied for the team lead with 10 runs scored. Sarah Robertson (.310 avg., .450 OBP) and Alexis Erich (.407 OBP) are second and third on the team in on-base percentage, while Jaclyn Amader (.272, 18 RBI) and Kara Canetto (.296, 16 RBI) are also top hitters.
