Quick Hits • Liberty hosts North Florida for a three-game ASUN series at Liberty Baseball Stadium, this weekend. The Flames and Ospreys will be meeting for the first time since 2014 and the first time ever in Lynchburg. The previous six meetings between the two teams were in Jacksonville, Fla. • The Flames have posted a 13-2 record at Liberty Baseball Stadium in 2019. Liberty has outscored its opponents 95-40 and Flames' pitchers have a 2.30 ERA at home so far this season. • Entering the weekend, the Flames lead the ASUN Conference with a 3.28 ERA. Liberty's mound corps also ranks 20th nationally in WHIP (1.19) and 14th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.0). • Liberty utility player Jonathan Embry was named the ASUN Player of the Week on Monday.
Home Has Been Sweet • The Flames have posted a 13-2 record at Liberty Baseball Stadium so far this season. Liberty has outscored its opponents 95-40 at home. • Liberty's pitching staff has been especially tough at home, recording a 2.30 ERA and holding opponents to a .211 batting average at Liberty Baseball Stadium. • Head Coach Scott Jackson's team posted a 6-2 record on its last homestand. The eight-game homestand was their longest of the season and saw the Flames post midweek wins over ACC opponents Virginia and No. 8-ranked North Carolina. • The Flames, who have posted a 136-57 (.705) record at the facility since it opened in 2013, are scheduled to play 30 games at Liberty Baseball Stadium this season. During its first six years of the stadium, Liberty has averaged 20.5 wins per season at home.
Embry Garners ASUN Player of the Week Liberty's Jonathan Embry was named this week's ASUN Baseball Player of the Week. It is the second consecutive week that a Flame has been selected to receive the weekly honor as first baseman Logan Mathieu was tabbed the ASUN Player of the Week for March 18.
Embry hit .438 with six RBI and scored five times. He collected at least one hit in each of the Flames' four games, as Liberty posted a 3-1 mark. The utility player hit his second home run of the year, which scored the only runs of the game in 2-0 victory over No. 8 North Carolina on March 20.
This past Friday, Embry started at catcher and drove in three runs in Liberty's win over NJIT. He also threw out a baserunner attempting to steal. On Saturday, he had three hits and two doubles, scoring twice against the Highlanders.
The redshirt junior capped off his week by starting in center field in the Liberty's 8-1 win over NJIT. He had two hits, a RBI and a run scored in the victory.
