No. 21 Liberty continued its strong play this spring at the 2019 Linger Longer Invitational where the Flames are tied for second place following the opening day of competition played on Friday.
The three-day event is co-hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer at The Landing at Reynolds Lake Oconee (par 72, 6,991 yards) in Greensboro, Ga.
During its first trip around the course, Liberty carded a 6-under par 282 and shares second place with UNCG. No. 25 Louisville leads the 15-team field after carding a 10-under par 278.
Liberty currently holds a three-stroke lead over No. 15 Georgia and Ohio State, who both finished play on Friday with a 3-under par 285.
Round two gets under way at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, with the Flames set to tee off starting at 10 a.m. from the No. 1 tee (par 4, 414 yards).

Field Reflections: • Four of the five top-25 ranked teams in the 15-team field finished the day with a par or better score (No. 25 Louisville -10; No. 21 Liberty -6; No. 15 Georgia -3; No. 24 Alabama E par). • No. 22 Tennessee struggled throughout the day, as the Vols rank last in the field after carding a 12-over par 300. • The tournament is Liberty's second of three regular season events where the Flames will only play 18 holes per day during a 54-hole event. • Thirty-one of the 87 players in the field posted a score of par or better during the first round. • Louisville's Jiri Zuska leads the field following day one after carding a 7-under par 65.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes: • The Flames led the field on Friday in par-3 scoring (3.00 average/E) and ranked second in the field in par-5 scoring (4.75 average/-5). • Liberty also ranked third in the field with 60 pars and fourth with 18 birdies. • Friday's opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational is Liberty's fourth round of the week during its busiest week of the season. • Liberty is a combined 21-under par over four rounds since beginning play on Monday at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. • A total of five strokes separate all five members of Liberty's starting lineup after the completion of round one (Ervin Chang 69; Jonathan Yaun 70; Alexandre Fuchs 71; Kieran Vincent 72; Gabe Lench 73). • Ervin Chang, who individually ranks No. 52 in the country, paced the Flames during the opening round of the tournament, carding a 3-under par 69. • Chang, the reigning ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week, has posted three straight sub-70 rounds, giving him seven on the season. • Jonathan Yaun is tied for 13th place after a 2-under par 70, matching the lowest 18-hole total of his freshman season. • Alexandre Fuchs is tied for 20th place following a 1-under par 71, his second-lowest round of the spring season.
