Lady Flames to Host Liberty Softball Classic, Thursday through Sunday

Liberty Game Notes

Liberty continues its 10-game homestand this weekend, hosting the Liberty Softball Classic. The Lady Flames will take on Quinnipiac (2-3) at 3 p.m. on Thursday to start the tournament, and will also face Rutgers, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart and Cleveland State.

Please note that the tournament schedule is subject to change, and is different from the schedule that was originally announced in the fall. will have the latest schedule updates.

Liberty has won each of its last 22 home games. Only Oklahoma (34) has a longer active home winning streak among NCAA Division I softball programs.

The Lady Flames went 4-0 at the Liberty Softball Challenge, outscoring opponents 43-2 in the process. Liberty has scored 43 unanswered runs and has not allowed a run in the last 21 2/3 innings. The Lady Flames defeated Delaware State 20-0, last Thursday, and Julia DiMartino pitched the fourth perfect game in program history in a 12-0 win over Princeton on Sunday. Liberty's top win so far this season came on Feb. 15, when the Lady Flames downed then No. 19 Texas A&M, 4-2.

Led by two-time Big South Coach of the Year Dot Richardson, the Lady Flames qualified for their first NCAA Regional Final in 2018, winning a program-record 49 games.

Liberty returns eight all-conference players from last year's team, led by two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year Julia DiMartino, 2019 ASUN Preseason Player of the Year Autumn Bishop and Amber Bishop. All three were named to the NFCA All-Region team each of the last two years. Autumn Bishop was named to the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List.

Julia DiMartino was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week each of the last two weeks. Last week, she retired all 26 batters she faced, going 2-0 with 11 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings pitched. She has retired each of the last 28 batters she has seen.

DiMartino, a two-time NFCA All-Region pitcher, is 4-3 with a 1.49 ERA, .133 opponents batting average and two saves. Freshman Braelyn Cooper has posted a 1.56 ERA in three appearances, while Chase Cassady is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA and .222 opponents' batting average.

Amber Bishop leads the Lady Flames with a .391 batting average, four home runs and 12 runs scored, while Alexis Erich bats .381 with three doubles. Madison Via (.375) has hit two doubles, two triples and two homers. Sarah Robertson (.368) is tied with Kara Canetto (.273) for the team lead with eight RBI. Denay Griffin hits .357, while Autumn Bishop (.343) is tied for third in the nation with three sacrifice flies. Jaclyn Amader rounds out Liberty's .300 hitters, batting .310.
