Team USA Tryout Website Liberty junior right-side hitter Casey Goodwin has received an invitation to try out for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team this week in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Goodwin will be one of an estimated 215 athletes from 88 colleges showcasing their abilities at the 2019 U.S. Women's National Team open tryout, which will be held this Friday through Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
USA Volleyball will be looking for athletes to compete on three separate U.S. Women's Collegiate National Teams, while also keeping an eye on prospective members of the U.S. Women's Senior National Team. One of the Collegiate National Teams will compete at the World University Games in Italy from June 30-July 4, while another will play in Japan from May 19-30 and a third will compete in Anaheim, Calif., June 23-29.
The tryout will be available for viewing through a live stream each day, beginning with Friday's session at 4 p.m. ET.
Goodwin is the second Lady Flame in as many years to be invited to participate in national team tryouts, as Anna Gragg participated in the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team tryout.
Hailing from Rougemont, N.C., Goodwin had a standout junior campaign during Liberty's first year in the ASUN. She was named to the ASUN All-Conference first team and VaSID All-State second team. Goodwin finished the season ranked fifth in the conference with 3.00 kills per set, led the ASUN with 40 aces and was 55th in the nation in aces per set. The junior led the team with 14 double-digit kill matches, including a career-high 25 kills against North Florida on Oct. 21.
