After a spotless pitching line at the Liberty Softball Challenge, Liberty senior Julia DiMartino has been named ASUN Co-Pitcher of the Week. DiMartino shared the honor with Riley Randolph of FGCU. This is the second week in a row that DiMartino has earned ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors. She has been a conference pitcher of the week eight times in her career.
Hailing from Brockport, N.Y., DiMartino retired all 26 batters she faced in 8 2/3 innings pitched at the Liberty Softball Challenge. She went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a .000 opponents' batting average, striking out 11 and walking none.
The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday, when she pitched the fourth perfect game in program history. She struck out seven batters in the five-inning, 12-0 win over Princeton. It was her third career no-hitter and first perfect game. The senior needed just 54 pitches to retire all 15 batters.
Last night, she entered the circle in a scoreless tie with two runners on and one out in the fifth. DiMartino proceeded to retire the next eight batters, as Liberty rallied for the 1-0 win over Bucknell.
DiMartino has set down each of the last 28 batters she has faced, dating to Feb. 17 against Rutgers.
The Lady Flames (8-6) will host the Liberty Softball Classic, Friday through Sunday at Liberty Softball Stadium. Liberty will take on Rutgers, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Cleveland State and Quinnipiac.
