Liberty Shuts Out Bucknell, 1-0, for 5th Straight Win

Back-to-back two-out triples from Alexis Erich and Sarah Robertson in the sixth inning produced the only run needed, as the Lady Flames ran their winning streak to five games with a 1-0 victory, Sunday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.

Liberty (8-6) posted a perfect 4-0 record at the Liberty Softball Challenge, while Bucknell (4-5) went 3-1 this weekend. The Lady Flames outscored opponents 43-2 over the last four games, scoring 43 unanswered runs.

Scoring Summary
LIBERTY – 6th INNING – Sarah Robertson triples to right, Erich scores, 1-0

Notable Numbers
- The Lady Flames and Bison both recorded four hits and two errors. Bucknell left seven runners on base, while Liberty stranded five.

- Julia DiMartino (4-3) earned the win, pitching 2 2/3 innings of perfect relief that included two strikeouts. Liberty starters Chase Cassady struck out five, walked four and allowed four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

- Raeanne Geffert (2-4) drew the loss, yielding one run on four hits, walking one and fanning three.

- Erich went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and one run scored, while Robertson went 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI.

- Four different Bison batters registered one hit apiece.

Turning Point
- Bucknell had runners in scoring position in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings, but failed to cash in. During the fifth, DiMartino came on in relief of Cassady with runners on first and second and one out. She retired all eight batters she faced.

- With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Erich tripled to the left-center gap. Robertson then followed by lining a triple to right field, provided what proved to be the winning run, as DiMartino pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.

Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty pushed its home winning streak to a program-record 22 games, dating to March 10, 2018. Only Oklahoma (34) has a longer active home winning streak among NCAA Division I softball teams.

- The Lady Flames have posted three straight shutouts, and have not allowed a run in the last 21 2/3 innings pitched.

- The last time Liberty pitched three straight shutouts was April 25-26, 2018, when the Lady Flames shut out North Carolina once and Hampton twice.

- DiMartino, who pitched a perfect game against Princeton this afternoon, has retired each of the last 28 batters she has faced, dating back to a 5-3 win over Rutgers on Feb. 17.

- Robertson is now tied for eighth in program history with six career triples, tying Sonja Keith (1996-99).
