Muamba is now the 99th-ranked singles player in the nation.
Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Rankings: Feb. 20
Flames men's tennis sophomore Nicaise Muamba has moved up five spots in the national singles rankings to No. 99 in the country.
Muamba first entered the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Men's Tennis Rankings at No. 104 in the nation, Feb. 6. The ITA lists the top-125 singles players and top-60 doubles teams in the country.
Muamba is the first Flame to be listed among the top 100 players in the country since Sam Matheson received a No. 94 ranking on April 19, 2016. He is the only ranked singles player in the ASUN Conference.
This is Muamba's second different recognition of the week. The Laval, Quebec, Canada, native earned ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors on Wednesday as well. He is the first two-time ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week recipient this season.
In 2018-19, Muamba paces the Flames with 15 singles victories and is 5-3 at No. 1 singles in the spring. His signature win came at Miami on Jan.18, a two-set victory over No. 21 Adria Soriano Barrera.
Muamba and the Flames (3-5) will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies, tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. On Saturday, Liberty will host North Carolina A&T (0-7) in its third home match of 2019. Match time between the Flames and Aggies is set for 5 p.m. at Crosswhite Athletic Club (118 Davis Cup Rd., Lynchburg).
