Julia DiMartino was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week.
Following a dominant performance in the circle at the Texas A&M Invitational, Liberty senior Julia DiMartino has been named the ASUN Softball Pitcher of the Week.
DiMartino earns her first career ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor. A two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year, DiMartino was named Big South Pitcher of the Week seven times during the last three seasons.
A native of Brockport, N.Y., the senior right-hander had a standout weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational, going 1-1 with two saves, a 0.82 ERA, 13 strikeouts and a .167 opponents' batting average in 17 innings pitched.
She picked up a victory in the opener of the invitational on Friday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven in a 2-1 win over Rutgers. DiMartino then earned an eight-out save in a 4-2 win over No. 19 Texas A&M on Friday, the ninth win over a Top 25 team in program history. She drew a tough-luck loss in a 1-0 setback to Texas A&M on Saturday, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out four. DiMartino finished the weekend by picking up a four-out save in a 5-3 win over Rutgers yesterday.
DiMartino has been at her best against nationally-ranked teams and out of the bullpen this year. She has given up just one hit in 11 innings as a relief pitcher, and has posted a 0.57 ERA in 12 1/3 innings pitched against Top 25 opponents.
Up Next Liberty will open its home schedule with the Liberty Softball Challenge, held Friday through Sunday at the Liberty Softball Stadium. The Lady Flames take on Wright State on Friday at 5 p.m., and will also face Bucknell, Princeton, Valparaiso and Delaware State on the weekend.
