Following its traditional three-month winter break, No. 35 Liberty returns to the golf course on Monday and Tuesday where the Flames will participate in the 2019 Sea Best Invitational.
The tournament is hosted by ASUN Conference foe Jacksonville at the TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley Course (par 70, 6,858 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The 14-team field will play 36 holes of continuous play on Monday, followed by a final 18 holes of play on Tuesday.

Tournament Reflections – Liberty's Previous Showing at the Sea Best Invitational: • Liberty has participated in this event eight out of the last nine years, posting seven top-five finishes. • The Flames finished last year's event in third place with a 1-under par 839 (277-277-285), five shots behind tournament winner USF, who carded a winning score of 6-under par 834 (274-279-281). • Liberty's third-place showing was sparked by Ervin Chang finishing the event tied for first place with a 6-under par 204 (67-67-70). • Chang finished the 54-hole event tied with Lipscomb's Eric Ansett (67-68-69-204) and North Carolina's William Register (65-69-70-204). • Chang captured medalist honors in a playoff, posting a par on the first playoff, while Ansett and Register both bogeyed the hole.
From the 18th Green – Recapping Liberty's Last Time Out • The last time the Flames hit the links as a team, Liberty posted a second-place finish at the Grandover Classic on Oct. 27-28, 2018. • Liberty carded a 15-over par 879 (295-289-295) on the Grandover Resort - East Course (par 72, 7,245 yards) in Greensboro, N.C. • Liberty finished 20 shots behind tournament host UNCG, who posted a winning score of 5-under par 869 (289-282-298) on its home course in windy playing conditions.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes • Liberty ended its four-event fall schedule ranked No. 35 in the final Golfstat national rankings. • The Flames ended the fall with a 289.83 team stroke average, which ranks ahead of the second-best fall average in program history (290.75 in 2010/school record is a 283.07 set in 2016). • After winning five of the last eight Big South titles (2011, 2012, 2014, 216 and 2018), the Flames will be looking for a different avenue to the NCAA Regionals during their first season of competition in the ASUN Conference. • During the offseason, 17 of Liberty's 20 NCAA Division I athletics programs moved their conference affiliation from the Big South Conference to the ASUN Conference. Liberty was a member of the Big South Conference for 27 years, starting its membership during the 1991-92 athletic year.
Scouting the Field (14 teams): • Nine team in the 14-team event enter the spring ranked in the top-50 in the country: Arkansas (No. 13), North Florida (No. 23), UNLV (No. 24), NC State (No. 26), North Carolina (No. 30), Liberty (No. 35), Florida State (No. 39), Campbell (No. 42) and Florida (No. 46). • The tournament will give Liberty its first look of the spring at three of its fellow ASUN Conference members, including its toughest competition for the title in No. 23 North Florida (also No. 61 and tournament host Jacksonville and No. 216 Lipscomb).
