The Lady Flames tennis team will head to Greensboro, N.C., for a match on Saturday against the UNCG Spartans.

Match time is slated for 1 p.m. at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Club (21 Oak Branch Dr. B, Greensboro).

Liberty (0-1) and UNCG (0-0) will be facing each other for the sixth time in women's tennis. The Spartans hold a 3-2 series edge. However, the Lady Flames defeated UNCG 5-2 in the last matchup between the two teams (March 2, 2018). Four current seniors – Lara Soares, Maria Medina, Anna Dollar and Ashley Bongart – all won their respective singles matches on that day.

There will be no live scoring or video stream of Saturday afternoon's contest.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • The Lady Flames were picked as a co-favorite in the ASUN Conference Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll, released on Jan. 11. Liberty shared top honors with four-time defending ASUN champion North Florida.
  • Liberty opened the year with a setback at Wake Forest, last Saturday. In 2018, the Lady Flames were 5-3 in matches following a loss.
  • Liberty finished 18-9 overall and 7-1 in the Big South in 2018. UNCG finished 4-17 overall and 1-6 in the SoCon a year ago.
  • Senior captain Lara Soares is currently the 64th-ranked singles player in the country. Her ranking marks the highest for any Lady Flame in program history. The Sobradinho, Brazil native enjoyed a successful fall in which she posted 11 singles victories, two of which came over current top-125 opponents. The next singles and doubles national rankings will be released on Feb. 6.
  • Liberty will see a familiar face at UNCG this weekend. The Spartans' Eugenia Camacho, a redshirt sophomore, was on the Lady Flames' roster for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. In spring 2017, she posted a perfect 8-0 Big South singles record for Liberty.
  • The Lady Flames will play 14 of their first 15 matches away from Lynchburg. Their home opener will be against Navy on Feb. 2. Over the previous two seasons, Liberty went a combined 16-4 at home, 9-14 away and 5-3 at neutral sites.
