Sophomore Jose Ballivian made program history as the first Liberty track & field athlete ever to earn ASUN Conference weekly honors. The shot putter from Santiago, Chile was named ASUN Men's Field Performer of the Week on Wednesday.
Competing in his first meet as a Flame, Ballivian took third place in the men's shot put at the Hokie Invitational, last Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. His IC4A-qualifying mark of 58-2.5 is the best effort in the ASUN Conference this season by nearly five feet.
Ballivian is currently tied for No. 47 on the NCAA Division I men's shot put list this season and already ranks No. 4 in Liberty program history for the event.
The Flames will open their 2019 home schedule with the 14th Liberty Kickoff, Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Ballivian is scheduled to throw the shot put Saturday afternoon.
