Ode Mitre will join the Lady Flames starting in fall 2019.
The Liberty women's tennis team and head coach Jeff Maren have announced the addition of Micaela Ode Mitre for the 2019-20 school year.
"Micaela is going to be a tough out against anyone she faces. She is a fighter on the court, and I love this characteristic because it means that she will not only battle in matches but in practice as well," Maren said. "She's already a good player, but I believe that she will continue to improve in college. We can't wait to have her join us next season!"
Ode Mitre hails from Lima, Peru. She has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the Peruvian rankings. Her best International Tennis Federation (ITF) ranking is No. 612, and she is a four-time Interscholastic champion. Ode Mitre currently holds a 10.23 Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) and reached as high as 10.43 last August.
In May 2018, Ode Mitre played in back-to-back ITF tournaments in Lima, Peru, reaching the semifinals in both singles and doubles. She also reached the singles semifinals at an ITF event in Guayaquil, Ecuador in Nov. 2017. Ode Mitre was also a doubles finalist at an ITF tournament in San Felipe, Chile in Aug. 2017.
"I chose Liberty University because it offers me a very complete campus. Academically, it has a very good level," Ode Mitre stated. "As for tennis, I will belong to a team in which I will continue to grow as an athlete."
