After the Flames went 2-0 this past week in the ASUN Conference with wins over Stetson and Jacksonville, Liberty's Scottie James has been named the ASUN Co-Player of the Week. James shares the honor with Lipscomb's Garrison Matthews.
This is the second time James has received a player of the week honor in a conference, as James was named Big South Player of the Week on Feb. 5, 2018 last season. The redshirt junior was exceptional this past week averaging 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, an assist and a block per game against Stetson and Jacksonville. James shot 66.7 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.
To start the week, James led the Flames to a road win over Stetson, scoring a game-high 15 points and shooting 7-10 from the field. The big man also chipped in five rebounds and recorded an assist. To close out the week, James made seven field goals for the second straight game, which is a season-high for James, as Liberty defeated Jacksonville, for its first-ever ASUN win at home. James flirted with a double-double finishing with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds.
James leads the Flames this season in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game, which also ranks No. 9 in the ASUN. The native of Tarpon Springs, Fla. continues to be one of the nation's best rebounders, averaging 8.6 rebounds per contest, which ranks No. 62 in the country and No. 3 in the conference.
James and the Flames will return to action this week when they travel to Georgia to face Kennesaw State on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
