The 2018 calendar year brought many new opportunities and success for Liberty Flames Athletics.
Liberty Athletics officially moved to a new conference after spending the previous 27 years as a member of the Big South Conference. Additionally, the Liberty football program played its inaugural season as an FBS program this fall.
Liberty Athletics captured seven conference titles in 2018, including: men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field, women's basketball, softball and men's golf.
Over the course of the two weeks leading into 2019, LibertyFlames.com will showcase the Top 10 Moments of 2018 in Flames Athletics.
The series continues on Friday with the No. 2 moment, Liberty joining the ASUN Conference. July 1 marked Liberty Athletics' first official day as a member of the ASUN, a move that was announced at a press conference on May 17. Eight of Liberty's nine men's programs moved to the ASUN (baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis and men's indoor and outdoor track & field), along with nine of Liberty's 11 women's programs (women's basketball, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's tennis, women's indoor and outdoor track & field and volleyball).
Liberty spent the previous 27 years as a member of the Big South Conference, claiming a conference-record 13 Big South Sasser Cup trophies, eight Big South Women's All-Sports Awards, seven Big South Men's All-Sports Awards and 146 Big South titles.
