Liberty's Darius McGhee was named the ASUN Conference Newcomer of the Week. The honor comes after McGhee averaged 13.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game this past week.
Coming off the bench, McGhee led Liberty in scoring this past week and it started off with a team-high 15 points against Vanderbilt, including a career-high three makes from three-point range. The freshman was also a difference maker on defense, recording a career-high three steals.
To close out the Commodore Classic, the Flames pulled out two wins at home against Alcorn State and Savannah State. McGhee hit a trio of three-pointers in each game, making it three straight games McGhee has hit three triples.
McGhee set a new career high with six field goal makes against Savannah State as he led the Flames in scoring (15 points) in their 82-56 win over the Tigers on Sunday. The freshman from Roxboro, N.C. is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game.
McGhee and the Flames will be back on the court this week for two games starting with Navy on Wednesday, on the road. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
