Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Rankings: Nov 14

Senior Lara Soares is listed as the 64th-ranked singles player in the country in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Rankings, released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this afternoon.

Soares' ITA ranking is the highest for any Lady Flame in program history. She is the highest-ranked ASUN Conference player as well.

"Lara has worked so hard to improve her game since arriving at Liberty last year, so it's wonderful to see her in the rankings for the first time! She has certainly earned the right to be considered one of the better players in the country," stated Lady Flames head coach Jeff Maren. "I have no doubt that will she continue to raise her game and help to lead our team to new heights in the spring!"

Soares is the second-ever Liberty player to be included among the top-125 players in the country. Jordan Jenkins (2008-11) was the first Lady Flame to ever be ranked, achieving the feat two times (No. 124 on Jan. 5, 2010 and No. 99 on Feb. 18, 2010).

Soares, a native of Sobradinho, Brazil, enjoyed a successful fall campaign in which she posted an 11-4 singles mark. She captured a singles title at the Hokie Fall Invite on Sept. 30 and also reached the semifinals at two other tournaments (Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, UNLV Rebel Invite) which both featured a highly-competitive field. The senior won seven straight matches from Sept. 23-Oct. 13, including victories over VCU's Paolo Delgado (No. 48) and James Madison's Daria Afanasyeva (No. 101).

Soares is also the only Lady Flames player to reach the round of 16 in the singles main draw at an ITA Atlantic Regional. She achieved the feat at the 2018 ITA Atlantic Regional, hosted by Liberty.

In one-and-a half seasons with Liberty, Soares sports a 31-14 career singles record for a .688 winning percentage.

Soares and the Lady Flames will open their spring 2019 schedule at Wake Forest on Jan. 19. Liberty will play its first home match against Navy on Feb. 2. The Lady Flames' inaugural ASUN Conference match will be contested on March 23 at Kennesaw State.
