The Lady Flames won 10 total matches (seven singles, three doubles) at the UNLV Rebel Invite.
Lady Flames senior Maria Medina of the Liberty women's tennis team captured the Flight Five singles title on Sunday at the UNLV Rebel Invite.
Medina's championship came in three sets over Texas A&M's Dorothy Faa Hviding, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). The native of Cumana, Venezuela, finishes the fall with an 11-1 record in singles matches, 9-3 mark in doubles and two titles (singles at UNLV Rebel Invite, singles at Hokie Fall Invite on Sept. 30).
As a team, Liberty reached five semifinals and two finals, with one championship, in the six flights it was entered in at the UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Lady Flames earned seven singles victories and three doubles triumphs over the course of the three-day tournament, which featured several strong opponents, including four ranked teams.
"Ten wins amongst our four girls in a tournament with this level of talent shows us what we are capable of. If not for a few injuries, we may have been in five finals today," stated Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren. "I feel that the last few weeks of competition has boosted our confidence and belief in ourselves. We know what we are able to do in the spring, and this fall season has helped to strengthen our mental and physical abilities and prepare us for what lies ahead."
Medina and fellow senior Rebekah Anderson lost in Sunday's Flight Three doubles final to the UNLV Rebels' Izumi Asano and Samantha Li by a 6-2 score.
Lady Flames junior Kalani Soli won her consolation final match against Iowa's Sophie Clark on the last day of competition, 6-3, 6-4. Soli wraps up her first fall at Liberty with an 8-3 singles record to go along with seven doubles victories.
The Lady Flames' fall season has concluded. As a group, Liberty won 61 singles matches and 30 doubles contests during the fall.
Liberty's first match of the spring 2019 season will take place on Jan. 19 at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons were the 27th-ranked team in the country at last season's end. The Lady Flames will open their home slate on Feb. 2 against Navy. Liberty's first-ever ASUN Conference match will be held on March 23 at Kennesaw State.
