Lilly Kruse was named ASUN Volleyball Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Official ASUN Release After helping Liberty continue its six-match winning streak with three victories last week, outside hitter Lilly Kruse has been named ASUN Volleyball Freshman of the Week.
A native of Auburn, Ind., Kruse is the first Liberty volleyball player to be named ASUN Freshman of the Week. In addition, she is the first Lady Flame to be a conference freshman of the week since Amaya Williams was tabbed Big South Freshman of the Week on Oct. 15, 2017. Liberty has now received all three ASUN weekly honors this season, as Casey Goodwin was voted Player of the Week twice and Defensive Player of the Week once.
For the week, Kruse averaged 1.50 kills pet set, 0.40 aces per set, 2.20 digs per set and 0.40 blocks per set. She set new career single-match highs in kills, aces, digs and blocks last week. The freshman outside hitter helped Liberty outhit opponents, .319-.094 for the week.
On Tuesday against Maryland Eastern Shore, she served up a career-high three aces and added seven digs. Her three aces in set two helped Liberty take control of the match. She then scored a career-high eight kills to go along with one ace, six digs and one block assist in a 3-0 sweep of NJIT on Friday. During Sunday's 3-0 win over North Alabama, Kruse sent down seven kills, collected a career-best nine digs while posting a season-high three blocks.
The Lady Flames (13-13, 9-3 ASUN) close out the regular season with four straight road matches. Liberty will play at defending ASUN champion Kennesaw State on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Lipscomb, Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
