No. 35 Liberty in 4th Place after Day 1 at Grandover Collegiate

No. 35 Liberty had the second lowest round on Saturday afternoon, allowing the Flames to climb up the leaderboard into fourth place at the Grandover Collegiate.

Liberty stands in fourth place at the UNCG-hosted event following an overall 8-over par 584 (295-289) carded on the Grandover Resort – East Course (par 72, 7,245 yards).

The 12-team field will return to the course tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. for a shotgun start during the final round of the Grandover Collegiate, Liberty's last round of its four-event fall schedule.

Round Recap – Liberty's Starting Five:
• Kieran Vincent: T6 1-under par 143 (74-69)
• Ervin Chang: T13 1-over par 145 (74-71)
• Gabe Lench: T18 2-over par 146 (72-74)
• Zach Barbin: T33 6-over par 150 (75-75)
• Alexandre Fuchs: T41 7-over par 151 (76-75)
Individual:
• Mitchell Klooz: T33 6-over par 150 (78-72)
• Jonathan Yaun: T33 6-over par 150 (75-75)

Field Reflections:
• Home course advantage has helped the UNCG Spartans enter tomorrow's final round with a seven-stroke advantage. UNCG leads the 12-team field with a 5-under par 571 (289-282).
• No. 49 Penn State is in second place following a 2-over par 578 (288-290), followed by No. 38 Northwestern, who is in third place with a 4-over par 580 (291-289).
• Liberty, ranked No. 35 in the Golfstat national rankings, is now the top ranked team in the field as all of No. 3 Duke's golfers are competing as individuals.

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• Liberty led the 12-team field in pars, finishing 36 holes of play with 117 pars. Ervin Chang led the Flames with 30 pars on Saturday.
• Kieran Vincent leads the Flames and is tied sixth overall with a 1-under par 143 (74-69). The redshirt sophomore's fired a 3-under par 69 during the afternoon, his second sub-70 round of the fall season.
• Gabe Lench opened the event with an even par 72, his team-leading seventh round at par or better this fall season.
• Liberty has seven the 10 players on its roster competing in this event, with Mitchell Klooz (78-72) and Jonathan Yaun (75-75) competing as individuals. Both golfers finished the first day tied for 33rd place with a 6-over par 150.
