Liberty to Face Jacksonville in ASUN Quarterfinal

The Liberty Flames will be the No. 5 seed for the 2018 ASUN Men's Soccer Championship and square off with the Jacksonville Dolphins in their first ever ASUN Quarterfinal on Friday. The conference announced the seedings and bracket with the close of the conference's regular season earlier this tonight. The Flames and the Dolphins will lock up at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn.

Liberty, 7-6-1 overall, qualified for the ASUN Championship in its first year in the conference with a 2-3-1 record. Jacksonville, 4-12 overall, finished 3-4 during the ASUN regular season to claim the No. 4 seed. Liberty features the top two scorers in the ASUN Conference in Kevin Mendoza (12 goals, 29 points) and Tresor Mbuyu (12 goals, 28 points). The Flames posted a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory over the Dolphins at Osborne Stadium on Oct. 20.

The winner of the contest advances to play the No. 1 seeded Lipscomb Bisons next Sunday at Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The Bisons tied the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles for first place with a 5-1 mark and 15 points in ASUN play and claimed the No. 1 seed for the ASUN Men's Soccer Championship due to their victory over FGCU during the regular season.

Times for both the quarterfinals and semifinals at Lipscomb Soccer Complex will be announced later.

The top six teams in the ASUN's regular season standings qualified for the 2018 ASUN Men's Soccer Championship, with the No. 1 and 2 seeds hosting the quarterfinals and semifinals. The title game will be held at the highest remaining seed on Nov. 17 with the winner receiving the ASUN's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

In the other quarterfinal contest, No. 6 seed Stetson, 1-4-1 for four points in ASUN play, will face No. 3 seed North Florida, 3-3 for nine points during the ASUN regular season, at the FGCU Soccer Complex in Fort Myers, next Friday. The winner of that contest advances to play FGCU in the semifinals on Sunday.
