Liberty midfielder Kevin Mendoza has been selected the Co-ASUN Player of the Week for games played Oct. 15-21. Mendoza shares the weekly honor with forward Logan Paynter of Lipscomb.
Mendoza earned his second recognition by the ASUN after helping Liberty post back-to-back wins and secure its first ever ASUN Men's Soccer Championship berth, this past week.
The senior midfielder posted back-to-back games with two goals and an assist in wins over American and Jacksonville. He has now scored two or more goals in four matches in 2018. In addition to having a hand in each of Liberty's goals on Saturday, his first goal of the game tied the match, while his second goal during the 102nd minute gave the Flames the victory in their 3-2 2OT win over Jacksonville.
With four goals and 10 points this week, Mendoza now leads the ASUN Conference in points with 29. He is also tied with teammate Tresor Mbuyu with 12 goals on the year.
The Mexico City, Mexico native is currently tied for seventh in Liberty program history with 30 career goals. He is also seventh all-time in career points with 75.
Liberty, 7-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the ASUN, finishes its regular season at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. on Oct. 30. The non-conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
