For the third time this season, Liberty senior Azaria Kirwa (Men's Runner of the Week) and sophomore Noel Palmer (Co-Women's Runner of the Week) have earned ASUN Conference cross country weekly honors on the same day.
Kirwa and Palmer previously swept the ASUN weekly recognitions on Sept. 19 and Oct. 3. Kirwa is now a four-time ASUN Men's Runner of the Week, as the Eldoret, Kenya native also won the award on Sept. 5. He is the first athlete to win four ASUN Men's Runner of the Week awards in a single season since Northern Kentucky's J.J. Webber in 2014.
Kirwa suffered his first defeat of the 2018 season during the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals men's 8K white race on Saturday in Madison, Wis. However, he still placed an impressive 19th out of 232 runners in a field which featured nine nationally ranked teams. Kirwa's 8K time was 24:10.0, as he finished inside the top 20 for the 10th time in his last 11 cross country races, dating back to last season.
Palmer, who shared her award with FGCU's Carley Lutzow, also faced a loaded field of 10 nationally ranked squads at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals. Palmer came in a team-best 65th of 234 runners in the women's 6K cardinal race, clocking a personal-best time of 21:21.7.
Liberty's next meet will be the ASUN Cross Country Championships, Oct. 26 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The women's 5K will begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 8K to follow at noon.
