First place in the BIG EAST will be on the line on Thursday when Liberty field hockey squares off with Connecticut in Storrs, Conn.

Thursday's contest will feature the 19th-ranked Lady Flames (10-4, 5-0 BIG EAST) and the fifth-ranked UConn Huskies (12-3, 5-0 BIG EAST). The match will begin at 6 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex.

Liberty and UConn have both clinched berths in the 2018 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, which will be held at the Liberty Field Hockey Field on Nov. 2 and 4. The winner of Thursday's match will take over sole possession of first place in the conference.

Liberty has won two of its last three games, including a 2-1 home victory over Georgetown last Friday. Meanwhile, the Connecticut Huskies have lost three of their last five contests after opening the year 10-0. All three of those losses came to top-five opponents (No. 3 Maryland, No. 5 Princeton and No. 1 North Carolina).
