Following its showing at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, the Liberty men's cross country team is now ranked No. 11 in the Southeast Region, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
Virginia (No. 1) and Eastern Kentucky (No. 2) continue to top the regional poll, with Furman climbing into the No. 3 spot this week.
Part of a field which included nine nationally ranked opponents at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, Liberty placed 25th of 34 squads in the men's 8K white race on Saturday.
Azaria Kirwa continued his impressive senior season, placing a team-best 19th with an 8K time of 24:10.0. Augostine Lisoreng (127th, 25:14.9), Felix Kandie (153rd, 25:37.5), Nick Doan (159th, 25:43.6) and Paul Squires (166th, 25:50.5) rounded out the Flames' top five in Wisconsin.
Liberty will take this weekend off from competition, in preparation for its first-ever appearance at the ASUN Cross Country Championships, Oct. 26 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
The women's 5K, slated for an 11 a.m. start, will see the Lady Flames battle Lipscomb, ranked No. 7 in the South Region.
The men's 8K will follow at noon, and the Flames will face two teams listed among the South Region's top 15, including Lipscomb (No. 11) and North Florida (No. 12).
