Liberty Notables

  • Liberty and FGCU will be meeting for the first time in each program's history, Tuesday night.
     
  • Both teams have won their last two games. In its last match, Liberty defeated NJIT 2-1 at Osborne Stadium for its first ever ASUN Conference victory on Saturday. Meanwhile, FGCU downed Stetson 3-1 at FGCU Soccer Complex on Saturday.
     
  • The Flames are 2-2-1 on the road in 2018, while FGCU is 2-1-1 at home.
     
  • Forward Tresor Mbuyu and midfielder Kevin Mendoza each netted a goal, as Liberty defeated NJIT on Saturday.
     
  • Yesterday, Mendoza, who has scored a goal in each of his last five games, was named the ASUN Player of the Week and Liberty goalkeeper Brogan Engbers was selected the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week.
     
  • Engbers has allowed only one goal in the last two games. The redshirt freshman has posted a 1.41 goals-against average and a .686 save percentage in eight games.
     
  • The Flames enter the week leading the ASUN in scoring with a 2.40 goals per game average. Liberty is second in the conference behind FGCU with a 1.46 goals-against average.
     
  • Mbuyu leads the ASUN with nine goals and 21 points. Teammate Mendoza is second in the conference with 19 points and is tied for second with eight goals.
     
  • After not playing a match in the state since 1999, Liberty returns to Florida for the third time this season on Tuesday. Liberty will be looking for its first win in the Sunshine State in 2018, posting a 0-1-1 mark. Liberty fell at UCF on Aug. 31 in its first trip to the state before rallying in the closing minutes of regulation to tie Stetson 3-3 in the program's first-ever ASUN conference match on Sept. 13.
