Flames in 6th Place after Day 1 of Intercollegiate at The Grove

Following the first day of play at the Intercollegiate at The Grove, Liberty currently finds itself in sixth place and seven shots off the overall lead.

The Flames carded a 2-over par 290 during their first of three trips around The Grove Club (par 72, 7,368) at the Middle Tennessee hosted tournament.

Liberty trails fellow ASUN Conference member Kennesaw State by seven shots, as the Owls hold the overnight lead after a 5-under par 283.

The middle day of the three-day event gets underway tomorrow at 8 a.m. (CST) with the Flames set to tee off a 9:12 a.m. off the No. 1 tee (par 4, 421 yards).

Field Reflections:
• Four teams in the 13-team field finished the first round with an under-par team score.
• Kennesaw State leads the field after a 5-under par 283 and is one shot ahead of three teams at 4-undre par (Kentucky, South Florida and Ole Miss).

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• The Flames played the par-3 holes the best on Sunday, leading the 13-team field with a 5-under par score on the par-3 holes (2.75 scoring average).
• Zach Barbin led the Flames with 15 pars on Sunday, while Alexandre Fuchs paced Liberty with five birdies.
• The Flames are playing the Intercollegiate at The Grove without the services of junior Ervin Chang, who led the Flames in 2017-18 with six top-10 finishes and a 72.15 stroke average.
• Chang finished the event in seventh place with a 7-under par 273 (72-69-68-64), closing with the event's low final round and finishing six shots out of the overall lead. Takumi Kanaya claimed the individual victory, earning a place at the 2019 Masters and Open Championship.
