Liberty freshman forward Alivia Klopp's game-winning goal at home against No. 7 Virginia at the Liberty Field Hockey field on Sunday afternoon received national attention early Monday morning. The highlight-reel goal was featured as the No. 9 play on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays listing.
Klopp's goal with 1:45 remaining in the contest lifted the No. 20 Lady Flames to their first-ever victory over the No. 7 Cavaliers by the score of 3-2. Liberty trailed 2-0 at halftime before scoring three times over the final 35 minutes, including Klopp's dramatic game winner.
On the play, senior Agueda Moroni sent a penalty corner attempt rocketing towards the right post, finding a diving Klopp. The freshman's perfect tip flew past the Virginia goalkeeper and into the back of the net for Liberty's first lead of the game and the first game-winning goal of her young career.
In addition to her efforts being recognized by SportsCenter on Monday, the BIG EAST Conference included Klopp on its BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. This marks the first time in her career she has been recognized by the league.
Klopp, who has started the last four games, is a native of Bernville, Pa., and leads Lady Flames freshmen in goals (2), assists (1) and points (5) through six contests.
Klopp and the Lady Flames (4-2) will head to Pennsylvania this weekend for a pair of road matches. Liberty will square off against the Villanova Wildcats (3-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) on Friday evening at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday against the Lafayette Leopards (1-6, 1-0 Patriot League).
