Time Change Announced for Tuesday's Field Hockey Game Between No. 16 Liberty, Longwood

The Liberty field hockey squad is set to open its 2018 home schedule against the Longwood Lancers on Tuesday. Match time is pegged for 10:30 a.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. The contest was originally scheduled for a 5 p.m. start, but impending inclement weather has bumped up the start time to the morning.

No. 16 Liberty has not played since Sept. 2, a 7-0 victory over the Ohio Bobcats on the road. Meanwhile, Longwood (3-1) won both of its two matches last week, defeating UC Davis (3-0 final) and La Salle (2-1 final in overtime) at home.

This will be the ninth meeting all-time between the two programs. Liberty owns a 5-3 advantage in the series. The Lady Flames bested the Lancers 3-2, last year in Farmville, Va.

  • Following their victories over Kent State (2-1 final) and Ohio (7-0 final), the Lady Flames are in the top 10 in the country as a team in five statistical categories: goals per game (No. 1, 4.50), scoring average (No. 1, 4.47), scoring margin (No. 3, 2.98), points per game (No. 4, 12.00) and assists per game (No. 8, 3.00).
  • Senior midfielder/forward Agueda Moroni is first in the country in points per game (5.25) and goals per game (2.25). She leads the BIG EAST Conference in goals (9) and points (21) through three weeks of play. Moroni's 5.25 points per game is over three points per game more than second, UConn's Cecile Pieper at 2.17 points per game.  
  • The Lady Flames are 3-4 all-time in home openers. Their last victory in a home opener came in 2015, a 6-3 triumph over the James Madison Dukes.
  • Liberty has outscored its opposition 18-6 in four contests and averages 15.8 shots per game, compared to 10.2 shots per game for their foes.
  • Liberty has already faced two ranked foes this season and will square off with seven more in 2018. The Lady Flames will also face No. 8 Virginia (home, Sunday), No. 18 Wake Forest (home, Sept. 30), No. 21 Old Dominion (away, Oct. 5), No. 2 North Carolina (home, Oct. 7), No. 10 Syracuse (neutral site, Oct. 14), No. 1 UConn (road, Oct. 18) and No. 13 Boston College (home, Oct. 21) down the road.
