As part of its coverage of Liberty's August Training Camp, continues its position previews today talking about the Flames' quarterbacks.

Stephen Calvert took over as Liberty's starting quarterback to start the 2016 season and in just two short seasons, the junior has positioned himself to rewrite the Flames' record books.

Last year, the all-conference quarterback set a new program record with 3,363 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, while tying the program mark with 257 completions.

If Liberty was eligible for national rankings (not eligible due to FBS transition process), Calvert would have ranked No. 9 in the country in passing yards per game (303.5) and No. 7 in passing touchdowns. Calvert jumpstarted the record-breaking season by setting a single-game school record during Liberty's win over Baylor, passing for 447 yards and completed 44-of-60 passing attempts with three touchdowns.

Calvert enters the 2018 season ready to reprise his role as Liberty's offensive leader, with Junior Mason Cunningham, redshirt freshman Landon Brown and true freshman Brandon Robinson looking to learn from him and provide him back-up during Liberty's first season at the FBS level.

Rise With Us: The Process

On Feb. 16, 2017, the NCAA approved Liberty's waiver request to begin the two-year FBS reclassification process. Liberty completed its final season as a FCS program in 2017, playing as a member of the Big South Conference.

The Flames will host their first FBS home game against Old Dominion on Sept. 1, the first of four FBS teams to visit Williams Stadium in 2018 to meet the FBS reclassification criteria. The 2018 home schedule also features FBS matchups against North Texas (Sept. 22), Troy (Oct. 13) and New Mexico State (Nov. 24).

In the event that Liberty is invited to the AutoNation Cure Bowl, Flames Club members will have priority for tickets and other associated events and privileges.
