2018-19 Liberty Women's Basketball Schedule Early-season home contests against Commonwealth foes James Madison and Virginia Tech headline a challenging non-conference schedule for the Liberty women's basketball team, as announced today by Head Coach Carey Green.
Vines Center Clashes Liberty will play a dozen regular-season games at the Vines Center, including non-conference matchups with Virginia Tech (Nov. 13), Saint Francis (Pa.) (Nov. 17), James Madison (Nov. 29) and West Chester (Jan. 2), along with the eight previously announced ASUN home tilts.
Visiting Lynchburg for the first time since Dec. 5, 2006, Virginia Tech will be the fourth different ACC team to play at the Vines Center in the last six seasons. The Hokies were the 2018 Postseason WNIT runners-up, while James Madison advanced to the tournament's third round.
First-time opponent Saint Francis (Pa.) played in the 2018 NCAA Division I Tournament, while West Chester appeared in the NCAA Division II Tournament a year ago.
All four non-conference teams playing at Liberty in 2018-19 won 23 or more games last season.
Road Warriors The Lady Flames will get warmed up for their inaugural season of ASUN competition with a busy travel schedule during November and December.
Liberty has only played 12 games in Florida in program history and none since Dec. 30, 2005. This season, the Lady Flames have seven games scheduled in the Sunshine State, beginning with the 2018-19 lid-lifter at defending MEAC co-regular season champion Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 9 and also including the Dec. 21-22 St. Pete Shootout in St. Petersburg, Fla., where Liberty will meet 2018 WNIT squads Duquesne and UCF.
The Lady Flames' Thanksgiving week will see them travel to the site of their 2005 NCAA Sweet 16 game (Chattanooga) on Nov. 21 and Lehigh (Nov. 24-25) for the Christmas City Classic. The Lady Flames will face Charlotte in their opening contest at Lehigh before meeting either the host Mountain Hawks or Norfolk State on day two.
Liberty will spend the entire month of December on the road, heading to 2018 WNIT qualifier ETSU (Dec. 4), East Carolina (Dec. 13) and UNCG (Dec. 16) before flying to St. Petersburg.
By the Numbers Liberty will travel to seven different states this season, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
The Lady Flames will face a pair of 2018 NCAA Division I Tournament teams, in Florida Gulf Coast (FGCU) and Saint Francis (Pa.).
Liberty will also play eight 2018 Postseason WNIT squads, including Bethune-Cookman, Chattanooga, Duquesne, ETSU, Jacksonville, James Madison, UCF and Virginia Tech.
The Lady Flames' 2018-19 schedule includes as many as 10 first-time opponents, including four non-conference teams (Chattanooga, East Carolina, Lehigh and Saint Francis (Pa.)) and six ASUN squads (FGCU, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, NJIT, North Alabama and North Florida).
