Following Liberty field hockey's second day of preseason practice, LFSN reporter Alan York had the opportunity to touch base with Lady Flames head coach Nikki Parsley-Blocker.
In addition to its preseason practice and training in preparation for the 2018 season, Liberty will play a pair of exhibition contests, starting with a home bout versus the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. Following the Lady Flames' final tuneup, a match at North Carolina on Aug. 18, they will open the 2018 regular season at in-state foe James Madison on Aug. 24.
Liberty's first home contest will be played on Sept. 11 against Longwood, following four road matches (James Madison, Duke, Kent State and Ohio) to kick off the year.
This year's 26-player roster features nine freshmen, one redshirt freshman, six sophomores, two redshirt sophomores, five juniors, two seniors and one graduate student.
The Lady Flames return four BIG EAST All-Conference selections from a year ago: junior midfielder/forward Agueda Moroni, sophomore midfielder Jill Bolton, sophomore defender Ashley Dykema and junior goalkeeper Allison Schaefer
Liberty's BIG EAST opener will be on its home turf on Sept. 14 against Temple. Liberty will serve as the host site for the 2018 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, Nov. 2 and 4 at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
