The Liberty field hockey team and head coach Nikki Parsley-Blocker have announced the additions of Kemy Meidane, Charlotte Vaanhold and Kira Short  for the 2018-19 academic year.

Both Meidane and Vaanhold hail from the Netherlands, joining current Lady Flame forward Moniek van Aarle (Schijndel, Netherlands). Short hails from Georgetown, Del.

"We are very excited to welcome two more Dutch players and another player from my home state," said Liberty Field Hockey Head Coach Nikki Parsley-Blocker. "Both Kemy and Charlotte will elevate our level of play on the forward line and create more continuity with our team. We also look forward to adding Kira to our roster. She has excellent fitness and will help push our program to new heights."

Kemy Meidane (F – Utrecht, Netherlands/Het VAVO Lyceum)
Meidane, a forward, competed in the Netherlands for Topklasse and for the Stichtse Cricket en Hockey Club (SCHC) Ladies Second Team. Meidane finished in second place with Topklasse and seventh place with SCHC.

Meidane says her favorite field hockey moment was winning gold at the indoor national championships. The native of Utrecht, Netherlands, who was also considering Rutgers, Saint Francis, Lafayette and Bryant, is eager to begin her journey at Liberty and intends to major in pre-medical.

"I was so happy when coach Nikki told me about Liberty and wanted me on their team," Meidane stated. "I am so excited to meet all my teammates and play my best season yet for LU!"

"Kemy is one of the fastest and hardworking players. We will miss her, and Liberty is going to be so glad to have her on its team."
Jan Heesters, Trainer/Coach for the Stichtse Cricket en Hockey Club (SCHC)

Charlotte Vaanhold (F – Hollandsche Rading, Netherlands/Het Nieuwe Lyceum)
Vaanhold, a forward, also played for the Stichtse Cricket en Hockey Club (SCHC), beginning in 2012. The Hollandsche Rading, Netherlands, native hails from a Dutch hockey family in which her mother's family played for SCHC or are still playing. Additionally, Vaanhold's brother and twin sister also play for top teams with the club.

With SCHC, Vaanhold achieved bronze medal status in 2012-13 (outdoor), 2013-14 (outdoor, two different tournaments), 2016-17 (indoor) and 2017-18 (indoor) and silver medal honors at the indoor level in 2013-14.

Vaanhold says her most memorable field hockey moment was the 2016-17 season because of a successful year that featured a third place finish at the indoor level and a fourth place showing at the outdoor level. At Liberty, she intends to be a veterinary major.

"I am proud to become a Flame on the Liberty team! The team, the staff and surely the university will be a good surrounding for this adventure abroad," Vaanhold said.

Kira Short (M/D – Georgetown, Del./Sussex Technical HS)
Short, a midfielder/defender, was a four-year varsity letterwinner for Sussex Technical High School. A three-time all-conference recipient and two-time all-state honoree, Short and the Sussex Technical Ravens qualified for the state tournament in three of her four years on the squad, finishing runner-up at the state tournament during her senior campaign.

Short competed at the club level for Gotta Love it Oranje alongside fellow Liberty freshman Darby Brennan.

Short, who also considered attending Georgia, Delaware, York, Newberry, Villanova, South Carolina and Ohio State, says her favorite field hockey moment was competing in the state championship game against her school's rival. The Delaware native is eager to begin her time as a Lady Flame.

"I am super excited to be attending Liberty University and to be a member of the field hockey team," Short stated. "I cannot wait to see what is in store for me over these next years."
