Liberty Men's Soccer Announces 2018 Non-Conference Schedule

2018 Men's Soccer Schedule

Eight home contests highlight the 2018 Liberty Flames men's soccer schedule, as the program announced its non-conference slate, this evening.

Along with three ASUN Conference matches already announced, the Flames will host five non-conference matches at Osborne Stadium.

"We are excited about our schedule and the opportunity to compete this season in the ASUN Conference," noted Liberty Head Coach Jeff Alder. "We had finished all of our non-conference scheduling prior to the announcement to join the ASUN and feel it will stretch our team to their limits and prepare us for our new conference. The non-conference part of our schedule will allow us to compete in some very tough environments, as well as, play against a number of different styles and systems. Our hope is this will allow our group to grow and mature together during this process to prepare us for our ASUN games and a potential spot in postseason play."

For the fifth straight season, Alder's Flames will open their regular-season schedule at home, hosting North Greenville on Aug. 24. Liberty will also entertain Niagara, Manhattan, James Madison and USC Upstate at Osborne Stadium in non-conference games.

The Flames will have five non-conference contests away from Osborne Stadium. Liberty opens its 2018 road schedule at VMI on Aug. 28, as part of a three-game road swing. The Flames will also travel to UCF and East Tennessee State (ETSU) during the span.

In addition to those three contests and three ASUN road matches, the Flames will travel to Longwood and Winthrop for non-conference games.

As released earlier, Liberty will play six conference contests in its first season as a member of the ASUN. The Flames will open ASUN action at Stetson in DeLand, Fla., on Sept. 13 and face Florida Gulf Coast (FGCU) and Lipscomb on the road. Alder's team will host North Florida, NJIT and Jacksonville at Osborne Stadium.

The top six teams in the ASUN standings will advance to the 2018 ASUN Men's Soccer Championship. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held at the home sites of the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, Nov. 2 and 4. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will receive a bye and play the quarterfinal winners in the semifinals. The finals will be played on the home field of the highest remaining seed on Nov. 10. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
