Chang and DeMorat Named to PING All-Region Team

After leading the Flames to a Big South title and an NCAA Regional appearance, Liberty's Ervin Chang and Mickey DeMorat have been named to the 2018 PING All-Region team.

The pair were two of 25 golfers named to the Division I PING All-Region East team. In total, 154 golfers were named to the six All-Region teams, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Liberty has placed at least one player on the PING All-Region team each year since 2010 and has had 13 total all-region honorees since 2008.

Chang and DeMorat paced Liberty during the 2017-18 season in stroke average and were both named to the All-Big South first team.

DeMorat finished off his senior year posting a 72.00 season stroke average, while recording four top-10 finishes and a team best three top-five finishes. The senior finished his Liberty career with a 72.28 stroke average, the second-best mark in program history.

The native of Merritt Island, Fla., played 17 of his 39 rounds at par or better during the season (43.6 percent). He posted under-par tournament totals five times, including a 7-under par 209 for a runner-up finish at the Big South Men's Golf Championship and a 4-under par 209 for a 17th-place showing at the NCAA Raleigh Regional.

Chang nearly improved his season stroke average by four shots over his freshman year with a 72.15 season stroke average (3.85 stroke improvement) and paced the Flames with six top-10 finishes.

The native of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, played 20 of his 39 rounds at par or better this season (51.3 percent). He posted an under-par tournament total in four events during his sophomore season, including a 6-under par 204 at the Sea Best Invitational, an event he claimed medalist honors after winning the tournament in a one-hole playoff.

Chang and DeMorat helped the Flames capture the program's fifth Big South title in the last eight years in April. Liberty won the conference championship by a 19-stroke margin of victory over second-place Campbell.

The conference title sent the Flames into NCAA Regional play for the ninth time in program history and the seventh time in the last eight seasons. Entering the NCAA Raleigh Regional, Liberty was ranked No. 40 in the national rankings.
