2017-18 Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings
Liberty men's tennis senior Sam Matheson has closed out his Flames career as the 104th-ranked singles player in the nation in the final 2017-18 Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Matheson first entered the national rankings in 2018 on March 20 and has been named among the top 125 players in the country seven times this season and 14 times in his career. The Tauranga, New Zealand, native was recently ranked No. 110 on May 3 prior to moving up six spots on the listing.
Matheson, Liberty's No. 1 singles player, captured 13 singles matches in the spring. His season featured over Virginia's Carl Soderlund (currently No. 24) and UNC Asheville's Henry Patten (currently No. 60).
Matheson first entered the national rankings at No. 106 on March 22, 2016 on his way to becoming the 2016 Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Year and the first Liberty men's tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship. He has reached as high as No. 93 in the country (May 5, 2016).
Matheson was a Big South Conference First Team All-Conference Singles selection in each of his three seasons with the Flames.
